Argyll & Bute Council announces Council Tax charges

Argyll and Bute Council has today (Thursday 9 February 2006) agreed its budget for 2006/07 and set its Council tax at Band ‘D’ equivalent of £1,156, a rise of £39 which represents an increase of 3.49%.

Presenting the budget, Council Leader Allan Macaskill said, “The process of setting a budget becomes more difficult every year. This year is no different and because of inadequate funding from the Scottish Executive we have the difficult task of trying to strike a balance between maintaining the frontline services that the public want with setting a council tax that they can afford.
“In setting today’s figure we hope to achieve that balance. It is inevitable though that there will be cuts in some services, but we have tried to keep these to a minimum.”

The increase is lower than the Council’s indicative increase of 4.92% Council Tax Band ‘D’ equivalent for 2006/2007 of £1,172.
