Local History

Postby Ship called Dignity » Sun Jan 08, 2006 8:46 pm

The recent discussion about Saddell Castle got me thinking that there is alot of people out there with a wide knowledge of the area and local history.

Does anyone think it would be worth having a separate Forum Header for Local History?

Davie, I think a lot of us would really like that. Sometimes people know things from the past that they take for granted, but are fascinating to others. Three stories I have heard recently on the forum were the one about Queen Esther that 4th gen Suth'n told, about the old woman who lived in the cave in the 1800s, and whose sleeping area is still intact. Bubbly Jock told us about another cave in which he remembers people living, and the very interesting description of Saddell Castle that Pete Reek gave us, about things that none of us might ever have even thought about. These stories stir the imagination and leave me wanting to hear more. By all means bring out your stories, and don't leave out any details

I was reading with interest about the auld rex pictures & look on the web for some other photos & came across the site with loads of historic items on it from the kintyre antiquarian society.

Davie, having a historical site is a great idea. :D The actual experiences of the local people or the experiences recounted from a relative are invaluable and very interesting. I enjoy reading the stories shared by board members. It makes the local history come alive.
