GIANT oil storage tanks are to generate £2million for navy chiefs at the Clyde nuclear submarine base.
A Dutch firm Trafigurahas struck a deal to rent the tanks at MoD fuel storage depots at Loch Ewe and Campbeltown.
Both locations have huge tanks that are underused and come under the jurisdiction of the Faslane base.
Trafigura has signed a contract with the Defence Logistics Organisation which runs the base on behalf of the Royal Navy.
The agreement will result in 2.7m gallons of aviation fuel being stored at Loch Ewe and 3.1m gallons at Campbeltown. The depots are bonded which means tax is only paid when the fuel is sold on.
DLO's Simon Mills said: "This is a good deal for the taxpayer as it makes best use of the infrastructure."
